Fitzgerald likes to paint in a series, exploring a theme in several media and often returning to the series time and again. She mixes media starting with a painting or monotype which she alters with collaged materials or to which she adds pastel, crayon, or paint. Color and whimsy have been the constants in her work. The Mixed Media Gallery features new work, done with built up surfaces as well as a collection of early paintings. Many of these paintings border on abstraction.
